Wanaka Eye Lens View

Artist Statement: "Imagine a camera lens zooming in on Wanaka lake on a sunny, splash-packed day. The sun is high and intensely bright. Birds glide over in a swarm across the New Zealand mountain range. On this day we jetted on the lake so everything felt fast and the landscape seemed to ripple as we moved through it. 

I like to think presenting the landscape in a circle like this invokes the sensation of sound. Like a pebble being dropped into water, you begin to see each layer as a ripple cast out from the sun's center. In many ways this is the same effect light has when it passes through our eye and suggests that we might view the world in this way, before our brain decodes the information and normally presents us with a flat image."
